FOPPE provides construction materials testing & inspection services for your project. Our role in your project is to verify that construction and materials conform with design plans and specifications. FOPPE can perform construction materials testing & inspection in the field as well as laboratory testing using soil testing in our state-of-the-art laboratory as well as inspections in the field.

Additionally, we offer services in:

  • Compression testing
  • Flexural strength tests
  • Soil Compaction/Density
  • Concrete
  • Asphalt
  • Steel
  • Floor Flatness
  • Special Inspections and Testing

Materials that can pass our field and lab tests are sure to last in your building site. For this reason, FOPPE is one of the top construction materials testing firms in the Midwest.

Concrete Inspection & Testing

Construction materials testinng & inspection: begin compressive core testingFOPPE provides a full range of concrete material testing and field inspection services for your project, beginning with sampling and testing of concrete mix materials and design of concrete mixes for specific project applications. FOPPE engineers are experienced in design of specialty concrete mixes such lightweight, silica fume, and shrinkage compensating cement, high strength (13,000 psi) concrete mix design and evalauation through laboratory and field trial batching.

Construction materials testinng & inspection: compressive core testing and impact materials testingFOPPE maintains laboratory curing facilities and compression testing equipment for compressive and flexural testing and impact testing. Materials such as concrete cylinders, beams, and cores specimens are tested in these facilities. Compression testing is carried out in accordance with ASTM standards. Testing equipment is calibrated on an annual basis.

FOPPE also provides evaluation and consultation services in connection with hardened concrete. Where durability is in question, FOPPE offers non-destructive test methods and petrographic evaluation of recovered samples of the hardened concrete in accordance with many of the construction materials testing & inspection guidelines of the ASTM standards.

Steel Inspection & Testing

construction materials testing & inspection of reinforcement bar in a concrete formFOPPE's senior engineering technicians provide monitoring and constuction materials testing & inspection services for reinforcing steel placement and achorage and for concrete formwork prior to concrete placement in projects such as retention walls. In fact, since FOPPE is utilizing the highest construction materials testing & inspection standards, FOPPE will advise against building a retention wall without a geosynthetic reinforcement. The inspections will check bar size, location, clearances, and splice lengths, and will document that the steel is properly tied per project requirements. Formwork plumbness and support are checked for compliance with specifications.

Asphalt Inspection & Testing

FOPPE's technical staff provides constituent material evaluation and testing and bituminous concrete mix design services in the laboratory. During field placement operations, material properties, temperatures, thickness, and densities are montiored, and samples of the asphalt mixes are recovered for laboratory evaluation. Laboratory evaluations include quantitative extraction testing to determine bitumen content and aggregate gradations, Marshall stability and flow testing, as well as bulk specific gravity and density determinations.

Special Testing and Special Inspections

FOPPE's senior engineering technicians provide you with monitoring an inspection services for the all-important “special inspections” required by the Ohio Building Code. Section 1704.3.1, such as:

  1. Material verification of high-strenth bolts, nuts. and washers.
  2. Inspection of high-strength bolting, bearing-type connections and slip-critical connections.
  3. Visual Inspection of welding
  4. Masonry Inspections for verification of the mortar preparation, and testing of cubes as well as prisms.
  5. Inspection and verification of reinforcement located in masonry block walls with state-of-the-art equipment and the interfacing with modern technologies.
  6. Section 1704.11 calls for the testing of sprayed fire-resistant material.

Reinforcing steel placement and achorage for concrete formwork is checked prior to concrete placement as desired. The construction materials testing & inspections will check bar size, location, clearances, and splice lengths, and will inspect and document the steel. If any deviation from the plan and project requirements is noted the deviation will be reported the Project Superintendent and properly documented per project requirements. Formwork plumbness and support can also be checked for compliance with specifications.
